I love doing the Leeds and York 5K race series hosted by the team at Even Splits. This year I opted to focus on just the Leeds one as closer to home, I had done last months race and was due to race again tomorrow night but as we all know now we are in lockdown. However the team have come up with a virtual race series to cover the next 12 weeks here are the details:
The EvenSplits 5K Race Series has, they hope temporarily, left the real world and gone virtual. And instead of 12 months, they’re condensing it to 12 weeks.
Each week, run 5K anywhere you like (safely and within government social distancing guidelines) and then submit your best 5K time. To help them keep track of your times, they have added a button to the EvenSplits page (http://www.evensplits.events/virtual5k), for you to Submit Your 5K times. Don’t worry if you run further than 5K, as long as you tell them how far you ran I can adjust your time. Please use this rather than social media posts because otherwise there’s a strong risk they will miss you out!
They have put a leaderboard up on the same page, which they will try and update daily. For scoring purposes, the race week runs from Saturday to Friday, so I’ll definitely update by Saturday lunchtime (bear with thm as this won’t be quite as slick as parkrun!).
They will then generate results and a leader board, where your best 6 times over the 12 weeks will qualify for prizes.
Everybody who submits at least six 5K times will get a special commemorative t-shirt.
To register for the series, Pay What You Want; it’s up to you (although do bear in mind the cost of t-shirts and postage). And while you’re at it, why not join the Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere Facebook group to share your training stories.
NOTE: THEY WILL NOT ACCEPT TIMES RUN BETWEEN 09:00 AND 10:00 ON A SATURDAY MORNING ON A PARKRUN COURSE.
