Hilton & Thompson Stay Loyal to Steels

Hilton starting his 7th season with SPS

Stocksbridge Park Steels this morning followed up yesterdays new sponsorship announcement with the news that manager Chris Hilton and assistant manager Lee Thompson have confirmed their commitment to the club for the upcoming 2020/21 season. This will be the 7th season that Chris has been in charged at the club that has seen the club reach the league play offs and two amazing FA Trophy runs. The club have always stayed loyal to Chris since they brought him from local rivals Worsbrough Bridge Miners Welfare and if it wasn’t for the premature end to last season, Chris and Lee had built an exiting young squad who looked like delivering another top 6 finish and another appearance in the play offs.

What is exciting from a fans view point is that the group of players have stayed loyal to Chris and the club since the lockdown begun. Giving the club their end of season trip funds, not asking for wages and also arranging a 60K run to raise over £1500 pound,  loyalty and gestures like this these days are hard to find in today’s modern football but this is a testament to Chris and Lee’s management skills and the future for Stocksbridge looks promising after a big period of uncertainty. Hopefully the season will get the September green light with fans!

Here is the statement put out my the club via their Facebook page this morning:

Stocksbridge Park Steels FC have confirmed that First Team Manager Chris Hilton and Assistant Lee Thompson have committed to leading the Steels next season.

The news comes on the back of yesterdays great news that new sponsors Eco Power Environmental have been found to ensure the clubs future Chris has been instrumental in keeping the club at the current level, and but for the abrupt end to last season was heading for the The Northern Premier League Division One South play offs, regarded as one of the best young managers at this level and with the experience of Tommo to support him, we will have great expectations and look forward to some exciting times ahead, Chris will start the recruitment programme of players now, and we shall inform you as and when we have news
