The best lightweight sock I've had, grips to the foot, stopping movement, the fabric allows your feet to stay cool and dry while giving maximum comfort
Sockmine have been provided me with socks since September 2015, I have been through the early version one of their Griplock lightweight socks and I was also a test subject for the version 2 which I am reviewing today. These days I use my lightweight socks for speed work and short race distances and I use the Sockmine Performance Quarter for daily runs, however I’m looking forward to trying the new version 2 socks that have just been released.
Long ago, in the textile heartlands of Nottinghamshire, there was a picturesque factory called Roy Lowe and Sons. It was run by Roy and his two sons, Tim and Martin. It was a happy factory and they made the best socks in the land until one day, an evil economic spell was cast that ground the proud machines to a halt.
The factory closed down. Myths about the abandoned factory floated on the wind around the county. Some people believed it was full of elves who still produced socks; others even claimed to have seen elves running out to do a cob run on Friday mornings. Myth grew into legend and things that should never have been forgotten fell out of memory.Until one day, a son of the third generation, Ben, a golden child with flecks of silver in his curly hair, was sweeping the factory floor when he came across what turned out to be a great mine shaft.
With a head full of adventure and a heart full of valour, he descended and found a mine full of elves who were proudly knitting the finest technical socks in the land. This gave Ben a marvellous idea. A treaty was formed with the elves and on this fateful day the SockMine was born!

Socks, one thing all runners need, yet sometimes we neglect. My issue has always been finding something that fits, a lot of leading brands don’t go over size 10/11. Thankfully Sockmine came to my rescue and not looked back since. In past I’ve used their Griplock Anklet. However I wanted something more lightweight for racing, so they sent me two pairs of their version one lightweight socks, nicknamed Grippy. Now I race in the updated version 2’s
The socks come in a few colours, yellow, orange, black and pink. I usually race in orange or yellow depending on my choice of race shoe but also like the black for when it’s muddy. Besides balck the others are very vibrant colours and won’t be everyone’s cup of tea as I know runners prefer black or white, I’ve found they actual blend in great most of my racing trainers be it be my adidas takumi sen or my nike vaporfly. I’ve raced the recent Leeds 5k series in my yellow pair and I loved them, when you are racing you need to have faith in the gear you are using will do their job. The socks were perfect. Thanks to their unique make up which combines comfort with their GripLock™ technology. The sock fit to the skin and stops movement of my feet. As you know movement can cause blisters and I can say I’ve not had a blister ever since I started wearing Sockmine socks.
These socks use what they call COOLMAX fibre which keeps moisture away and keeps the feet cool and dry which is another massive plus. They wash up great every time and my current ones were brand new at turn of the year but are like new
They have really thought about the sock, the Griplock is in place in the right areas, yet the toes and ankle are free to move naturally. For me socks are a highly underated part of the kit, yet one of the most vital. If like me you train several days a week you need to look after your feet so the wrong pair of socks means blisters and sores. This then means time off. With the GripLock socks you can run for miles knowing that your feet are being looked after and not getting smashed to pieces.
What I like is they have sizes to fit all feet and at only £12 they are a decent price. Best place to grab a pair is from their online store. If you are looking for the perfect race day sock then I can hand on my heart say these are the best I’ve worn. I have every confidence in them I will use them in all my short distance races. . I would never endose a product without testing and having used them for 5 years I think they have more then proven themselves.
